The Friends of the Museum, headquartered in Mineral Wells, Texas, is the support organization for The National Vietnam War Museum. It is a 501 (c)(3) corporation, so donations to the Friends are tax deductible. This group is comprised of veterans and non-veterans who are interested in helping the museum's board of directors develop a national museum on a twelve-acre site east of Mineral Wells on Highway 180, about 50 miles west of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

The group's mission is to: Raise funds and public awareness for the National Vietnam War Museum. The Friends group has an ex-officio member on the Museum Board of Directors and the two groups freely exchange information. The Friends have been recognized for developing the idea of "Honorary Landowner", which generated more than $30,000 in revenue for the museum and funded the purchase of the land on which the museum is built.

Members of the Friends are responsible for securing a resolution passed by the American Legion at the national level supporting the museum. The Friends generate a quarterly newsletter that provides information to members and the interested public. Membership in the Friends is open to anyone at a cost of $15.00 annually per household, which includes receiving the newsletter.

The Mineral Wells Friends group meets typically on the 4th Saturday of each month from 10:00 am untill 11:30 am. The Weatherford Friends typically meets on the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 pm at various locations in Weatherford. Members are not required to attend the meetings, but attendees are needed regularly to "work" on the current group project.

Membership

Annual dues are $15.00. To become a member and receive the newsletter, do one of the following:

Many monuments commemorate those who lost their lives in Vietnam. The National Vietnam War Museum is established to recognize not only those who died, but to better understand the Vietnam era and the lasting effects of those who lived through it. History and the significance of the era isn't the only thing that is passing from the memory of so many.

The passing of time sees the passing of more of our friends and comrades, and with it, evidence of our own mortality. To honor them, the Museum Board established the Directors Endowment, which will be used for sustaining operations of the Museum. Donations to specific funds, in the name of the deceased, may be made, at the families' request, in lieu of flowers.

These funds will remain open so that anyone wishing to contribute to a specific memorial fund will be able to send donations annotated "________ Memorial fund".

These memorial funds ensure that perpetual donations may be made to the museum in honor of the deceased. The families will be notified of gifts when they are received.

Memorial funds may be established within the Directors Endowment to honor any individual, whether connected with the Museum or not. If you wish to establish a fund, please contact the Endowment Manager, in care of the Museum, for details. The funds, and their honorees, will receive appropriate recognition in Museum literature and a permanent place of honor. All contributions to the National Vietnam War Museum Directors Endowment are tax-deductible within the IRS limits specified for a 501(c)(3) organization.

For more information on setting up a memorial, please contact the museum.

Sponsorship Requirements

The NVNWM Board of Directors will propose sponsoring relationships to both non-profit and for-profit organizations after nomination. This relationship is based on the common desire to accurately and objectively document the events of the Vietnam era and the experiences of all of those affected by its many significant events.

Sponsoring relationships are intended as a perpetual relationship between the two parties. Either party may unilaterally terminate a sponsoring relationship without any legal recourse.

The establishment of a sponsoring relationship does not require any commitment to financial or in-kind support by the sponsoring organization.

Sponsoring Categories

1. Founder Sponsor - Any organization pledging financial support in excess of $500,000, payable over a period of no more than ten years, will be designated Founder Sponsor.

2. Except as noted above, sponsoring organizations will be differentiated by the following categories, solely based on the time of the sponsorship initiation:

a. Charter Sponsor – An organization that accepts the nomination prior to the initiation of the formal kick-off of the five-phase development plan.

b. Senior Sponsor – An organization that accepts the nomination prior to the Museum ground breaking.

"No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now. Rarely have so many people been so wrong about so much. Never have the consequences of their misunderstanding been so tragic."
- Richard M. Nixon
